Dan Hegelund, a choir director and vocal artist from Sweden, will open a music school in Issaquah. Common Ground Choir Academy will offer a broad variety of choirs for children, youths, adults, and seniors.

As an experienced vocalist and performer, also Hegelund will offer private singing lessons.

Hegelund plans to make the choirs based on music genre. “That way, you will be able to choose a choir according to whatever style you prefer,” he said.

He plans to offer a gospel choir, an ethnic choir, a secular pop choir, a musical choir, a jazz choir, a hymn choir, among others. Because he and his wife have a European background, the school also will offer Scandinavian choirs (one for children and one for adults), as well as a Russian choir.

The Scandinavian and Russian choirs will be open for people with no prior knowledge of these languages. All lyrics will be spelled out in English phonetics.

The school opens Sept. 1 at 160 Gilman Blvd, Suite D. People can drop by a rehearsal for free to see what it is like.
