Eager to make the most of its stunning natural resources, the City of Sammamish has been holding a series of “Sammamish Walks” — exploring the tracks and trails of the Plateau.

In September, Frank Blau, local resident and avid nature photographer, led a group on a one mile walk along the paths of Beaver Lake Park.

Other walks were held through the Beaver Lake Preserve and Hazel Wolf Wetlands, and at Illahee.

This Saturday, Oct. 24, groups will explore trails through Soaring Eagle Park.

From 12:30-2:30 p.m., Sammamish Parks Commissioner Randy Jackson, will lead the 2.5-mile walk.

Bring birding or wildlife guidebooks, cameras and/or binoculars. Please leave the dogs at home as we will be focusing on plants and wildlife.

The walk through this 600-acre densely wooded park will begin and end at the Soaring Eagle trailhead.

To get to the trailhead:

From 228th, turn east on SE 8th Street (across from City Hall).

Go 1.5 miles (SE 8th turns into 244th Ave SE) then turn right on E Main Drive and follow it to the parking lot at the end (road becomes East Plateau Drive along the way).
