A group of students at Grand Ridge Elementary in the Issaquah Highlands found a unique way to raise money for disaster relief in Haiti that would have pleased their parents and teachers – hitting the books!

The “Helping Haiti One Page at a Time” fundraiser raised $2,460 from pledges that students earned by completing pages of reading, writing, math, and other studies. The Grand Ridge PTSA sponsored the fundraiser, based on the creative idea of fifth grade teacher Jenise Clausen.

As well as working hard to earn pledge money for the cause, students also eagerly offered up their spare change and afternoon “popcorn” quarters in a heart-warming display of generosity.
