Youth Theatre Northwest is seeking actors, between the ages of 6 and 18, to perform in the upcoming season of its plays and musicals. Auditions will occur September 6-8.

Each year, the Theatre presents 10 professional theatrical productions as well as a variety of special events for audiences of up to 20,000. The creation of each theatre production provides youth with practical experience and professional training in theatre and performance.

Auditions for children between the ages of 6 and 8 will occur Sept. 6, 7 and 8 (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) from 4-5 p.m. These children will audition in groups and are not required to prepare anything prior to auditioning.

Older students, ages 9-18, may audition Sept. 6, 7 and 8 anytime between 5:30-9:30 p.m.. Actors will be seen in 5 minute increments and are asked to perform a one-minute theatrical monologue and a song (a verse and a chorus) from a musical.

Actors must bring sheet music for the piano accompanist and both pieces must be memorized.

If a child is cast in a production, they are required to pay production tuition. Both full and partial scholarships are available for families in need.

Each season, Youth Theatre auditions approximately 200 students and casts 85-to-90-percent of them into productions.  Youth Theatre’s upcoming school season includes: Mercer Island’s Haunted Forest (October), the musical Disney’s Sleeping Beauty (Nov. 4-20), the musical Free to be… You and Me (Dec. 2-18), the musical Hairspray (Jan. 27 – Feb. 12, 2012), the play The Adventures of Peter Rabbit (March 2-18, 2012), the play A Wrinkle in Time (April 20 – May 6, 2012) and the play Enchanted Tales (May 18 – June 10, 2012).

To schedule an audition appointment, parents and/or youth may call the 206-232-4145, ext. 100. All auditions must be scheduled. For detailed information, visit www.youththeatre.org.
