$18,000 for Issaquah History Museums

The grant will enable the caboose to be stabilized and outfitted as an educational resource and interpretive space.

The Issaquah History Museums has been awarded $18,000 to renovate the Weyerhaeuser caboose which currently sits outside their depot headquarters on Rainier Boulevard in downtown Issaquah.

The substantial grant is courtesy of 4Culture, a King County program which supports the arts, heritage, and preservation.

On Tuesday 4Culture announced more than $320,000 worth of grants to groups just like the Issaquah History Museums, including $44,440 for the Center for Wooden Boats at South Lake Union in Seattle, $40,000 for the Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualmie, and $50,000 for the White River Valley Museum in Auburn.

The Issaquah History Museums will contract with the Northwest Railway Museum to repair exterior and interior elements of the 1942 caboose, originally constructed by Southern Pacific and later purchased by Weyerhaeuser for use in its logging operations.

The museum acquired the caboose in 1990, and made some intermediate repairs.

The grant will enable the caboose to be stabilized and outfitted as an educational resource and interpretive space.
