5th Avenue Theatre honors area students

The 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theatre celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, bringing previous recipients back to the stage to present the next generation of musical theater stars with awards and accolades.

The 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theatre celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, bringing previous recipients back to the stage to present the next generation of musical theater stars with awards and accolades.

This year’s ceremony will be held at 7 p.m., June 4, at The 5th Avenue Theatre. The program allows theater students from across Washington to meet and celebratemusical theater productions presented during the school year.

This school year, the theater sent professionals to evaluated each school’s production in 21 categories, from best lobby display to best overall musical production.

For the 2011-12 high school theater season, 191 nominations and 99 honorable mentions were given to the 93 productions. This includes locals: Issaquah High School (Outstanding Music Direction, Honorable Mention for “Fiddler on the Roof”); Eastside Catholic (Outstanding Stage Crew, Honorable Mention for “Footloose”); Derek White of Eastlake (Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Cat in the Hat in “Seussical”); James Litvak of Eastlake High School, (Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Honorable Mention, Horton in “Seussical”); Jae Fabroa of Eastside Catholic (Special Honors: Student Achievement).
