A 38-year-old Sammamish man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and making false statements to police after crashing his car in which his two young daughters were passengers.

According to a report by Sammamish Police, the man was driving a Toyota 4 Runner south on 288th Avenue NE on Sunday, Dec 13 at about 9:30 p.m., when he “drove off the road, over the sidewalk, and collided with a sign and some landscaping.”

The driver’s wife was following the 4 Runner in the family’s minivan.

After the accident, a passerby called 911. When police arrived, the man claimed that he was the only passenger in the 4 Runner.

However his wife later admitted that their two daughters, aged 6 and 5, were in the 4 Runner.

The police officer “detected intoxicants on (his) breath, he staggered and slurred his speech.”

The two girls were not injured in the accident, though one complained of chest pains, most likely from the seatbelt.

The man was transported back to the Sammamish Police Station, where he refused to submit to a breath test.

He was then taken to the Issaquah Jail, where he refused to comply with the jail’s booking procedures. As a result he was driven to the King County Jail, where he was booked with the offenses listed above.
