Annexing Aldarra/Montaine would have positive financial impact says Sammamish Finance Director

Annexing the 273 homes in the Aldarra/Montaine estates would bring in $75,000 a year for the City of Sammamish of about $75,000, according to revised figures from the city's Finance Department.

Annexing the 273 homes in the Aldarra/Montaine estates would bring in $75,000 a year for the City of Sammamish of about $75,000, according to revised figures from the city’s Finance Department.

The city is currently considering an annexation request from a large group of Aldarra/Montaine residents.

At last week’s meeting of the Sammamish City Council, March 9, Finance Director Lyman Howard told the council that initial estimates of a $9,000 net operating profit incorrectly calculated the cost of transferring fire service to Eastside Fire and Rescue Station 83.

Howard estimates it would cost the city about $555,000 a year to maintain and operate the two estates, which lie on either side of Southeast Duthie Hill Road, east of the Trossachs area.

It is estimated the city would collect about $510,000 in Property Tax and $50,000 in Sales Tax revenue from the neighborhoods.

According to Howard, annexing into the City of Sammamish would reduce the tax burden of residents in Aldarra and Montaine by about $570 a year, based on an average home value of $767,000.

Though a petition including the signatures of more than 60 percent of the homeowners in support of annexing into the City of Sammamish has been submitted, the Aldarra/Montaine bid has been troubled in recent weeks by the objection of some residents to assuming the City of Sammamish’s debt of a little more than $8 million.

Sammamish currently has the lowest debt service repayment expenses per capita of any city on the Eastside.
