The anonymous threat of a mass shooting made towards Skyline High School students Wednesday night specifically targeted “jocks” and students who “use their wealth and social status to act superior to others.”

The person making the threat said they would open fire in the commons area Thursday morning with his or her father’s gun, and would keep firing until they ran out of ammo or were killed by police.

“When it’s late at night and the police are working on it, you have to make a decision you feel is safest for the students,” Issaquah School District spokeswoman Sara Niegowski said of the district’s decision to close school.

Niegowski said the district has received several calls of concern from parents around the district, but wants to assure the public no threats have been made against other schools in the ISD.

She said that these types of threats aren’t extremely common, but social media makes it easier.

“It’s certainly progressed from writing on the bathroom wall,” said Niegowski, noting students don’t often understand the ramifications.

This is part of the message obtained from a screen shot on the social media website 4chan:

tomorrow i am going to be taking my fathers erma smg (pic related) and i am going to open fire on the people in the commons in the morning until I am either taken down by our schools police officer, or until i run out of mags. i have a separate mag with a few bullets in it that i will use to take my life if i can make it up to that point. the people at the school use their wealth and social status to act superior to others and they think it makes them better. the biggest offender of that would definitely be the jocks, i am going to start killing them first because they deserve it the most, and they are in the middle of the commons so it would be an ideal place to start. anyways, i just thought I’d share my story before I head to bead tonight. can’t say the fact that im leaving this world tomorrow saddens me at all because ill be doing it with a good cause. these kids don’t deserve the lives they have been given, and tomorrow ill make sure they wont ever abuse them again.

The Issaquah School District announced late Wednesday night that was going to close the school Thursday due to the serious nature of the threats.

According to Sammamish police, the threat was made around 9 p.m. on the bulletin board website.

After the threat appeared online, the King County Sheriff’s Office 911 center received nearly 100 calls from concerned citizens from as far away as Pennsylvania who had seen the post and were concerned by its contents.

Investigators have not identified the source of the threat, but they have received a number of leads.

Anyone who believes they may have information regarding the source of the threat is asked to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311.

The Reporter will update the story as more information becomes available.
