Bad Santa strikes with water balloons in Sammamish | Police blotter

A man driving southbound down Issaquah-Pine Lake Road called police Dec. 9 after his vehicle was hit by water balloons containing a mystery liquid that made his window fog up. The impact also caused $300 in damage to the windshield.

He said he saw two male juveniles throw the balloons, noting one had dark hair and the other was wearing a Santa hat.

Both were seen running towards Sunny Hill Elementary before disappearing onto the property.

PHONE SCAM

An 87-year-old Sammamish man contacted police Dec. 3 to report he was a victim of a phone scam.

The man said he was contacted by a man claiming to be his grandson. The caller said they had just been in a accident in Haiti and needed money to avoid arrest.

The Sammamish man wired two separate transfers totaling $2,425. The man called police when he learned that his grandson was in fact in Oregon at the time.

DIRTY FEET

A manager at a Sammamish apartment complex called police Dec. 7 to report strange behavior by a resident, who had recently washed his feet in the sink of the apartment’s lounge area.

When police arrived the man was standing outside wearing a vest, shorts and no shoes in 46 degree weather.

Police informed the man of the apartment’s concerns. He responded by saying he had the right to be there. Police agreed, but asked him to not wash his feet in the sink.

Two days earlier, the same man was reported to have taken walkie talkies from staff and refused to give them back.

FALSE ALARM

A Sammamish woman called police Dec. 5 to report a vehicle prowl where the suspect left a knife behind.

Police obtained the knife for evidence before receiving a call from the woman, who stated she had just learned that the knife belonged to her husband and that no vehicle prowl had occurred.

GRINCH STRIKES

A Sammamish man called police Dec. 1 to report someone cut the Christmas lights he just placed in the front yard of his home in the 1300 block of 229th Place Northeast.

He had no suspect information and no other lights that he knew of had been damaged.

HEAVY THEFT

A Sammamish home owner called police Dec. 8 to report the theft of several large appliances including a refrigerator, stove and vent with an estimated value of $15,000.

The man, who is attempting to sell his home and doesn’t live in the home off of Eastlake Sammamish Parkway, said it appeared someone entered the home by using the lockbox.

This was the second time since October someone broke into the home and stole appliances.

JEWELRY STOLEN

A Sammamish man called police Dec. 5 to report the theft of thousands of dollars in jewelry from his home. Thieves entered the home in the 21900 block of Northeast 21st Place by breaking the kitchen window over the sink. Total loss, including damage, was estimated at $6,500.

HOME RANSACKED

A real estate agent called police Dec. 4 to report someone broke into a home on East Lake Sammamish Parkway and stole several expensive items.

The agent said there had just been a open house two days earlier and he believed the thieves unlocked either the front or back door when they viewed the home.

They stole two large flat screen TVs, two bicycles and a throw rug.

PACKAGE THEFT

A Sammamish resident called police Dec. 4 to report the theft of a bath set that was delivered to his doorstep.

The man, who lives in the 1100 block of 205th Avenue Northeast, said that when he went to grab his mail, he noticed an empty cardboard box nearby.

He recognized the label as a package he ordered for his daughter. Total loss was estimated at $10.
