Hats off

Issaquah 8th-grader donates hair

Marisa Katagiri, an 8th-grader at Inglewood Junior High School, had her first major haircut at the Sammamish Great Clips recently.

She cut off a foot of hair and donated it to the nonprofit Locks of Love. which takes human hair donations and creates wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness.

Marisa still has enough hair to pull back into a ponytail.

Guidelines for donating hair: it must be at least 10 inches long when pulled straight; it must not be bleached; hair should be in a ponytail or bread when donated.

For more information on Locks of Love, go to www.locksoflove.com.

Issaquah student receives scholarship

Mackenzie Odegaard, an Issaquah resident and student at Bellevue Christian School, was awarded the Calvin Honors Scholorship from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Calvin is listed as one of the country’s top Christian, liberal-arts colleges, according to U.S. News & World Report, and one of the best colleges in the country.

She will attend in the fall.

Sound Transit proposes changes

Sound Transit officials are seeking public comment on several proposed changes for 2009, including changes to bus routes serving Issaquah and the opening of the light rail system.

Proposed bus route changes will affect three routes connecting Issaquah to Bellevue, downtown Seattle and North Seattle. The changes to ST Express Route 554 are: changing the location of the Eastgate Park-and-Ride stop to the HOV direct access ramp platforms and increasing weekday service from every half hour to every 15 minutes at midday between Seattle and Issaquah. Changes to ST Express Route 555 and 556 are: consolidating Eastgate Park-and-Ride stops at the HOV direct access ramp platforms and rerouting buses to Bellevue Way Southeast and the South Bellevue Park-and-Ride.

Sound Transit would also like suggestions for light rail service hours.

Two meetings to discuss these proposals will be held, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at 401 South Jackson St. in Seattle, and from noon to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the same location.

To comment without attending a meeting, e-mail Sound Transit at fastride@soundtransit.com, call 1-866-940-4387, or send mail to Carol Masnik at Sound Transit, 401 South Jackson St. Seattle, WA 98104.
