Chalk it up to fun: the Issaquah Chalk Art Festival | SLIDESHOW

The 2015 Issaquah Chalk Art Festival, by all accounts, had a record turnout Tuesday.

At least 170 community members took advantage of the sunshine and set to work on their creations on the sidewalk along Rainier Boulevard South, near the Issaquah Community Center, from noon to 5 p.m.

Depictions of Pixar’s Minions were among the creatures — mythical or otherwise — on the sidewalk. Some people also drew their family holding hands, while others simply wrote inspirational messages on their slab of concrete.

The free event, going for more than 10 years, is sponsored by the Issaquah Arts Commission.

Evergreen Balloons’ Jami Stavlo, for the second year in a row, was on site twisting balloons into creations, from bumble bees to lightsabers.
