Sammamish Hills Lutheran and Pine Lake Covenant churches will engage hundreds of Sammamish volunteers to roll up their sleeves and work at numerous not-for-profit organizations on the Eastside on May 10 during Community Day of Service.

Event organizers anticipate upwards of 600 volunteers to work at almost 40 local not-for-profit organizations. Participating organizations include Habitat for Humanity, Seattle Tilth, Lifewire, Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank, Cougar Mountain Zoo, Eastside Friends of Seniors, Habitat ReStore, Vine Maple Place, Seattle Union Gospel Mission and others.

This year marks three years for the communitywide initiative originated by Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church. More than 300 volunteers signed up to serve during last year’s event and this year the church is partnering with Pine Lake Covenant Church. The day will end with celebrations at each church, with dinner and a slideshow showcasing the day’s events.

“We’re excited to join hands with our friends at Pine Lake Covenant Church. As communities of faith, this is an opportunity for us to share God’s love and grace,” said Sammamish Hills Lutheran Pastor John LaMunyon. “We hope to inspire people across all walks of life to experience the joy of offering the humble gift of service.”

Mark Meredith, lead pastor at Pine Lake Covenant, said they are very excited to be involved.

“We hope this becomes an annual event for our church as it has for Sammamish Hills Lutheran,” he said. “We’re glad to help other organizations that are on the front lines making a difference in people’s lives every day.”
