Collection for food bank at final concert

Supplies are very low at the Issaquah Food Bank, and organizers of the Concert on the Green series hope to collect enough donations and goods at next week’s concert to help them serve clients in need. The final concert in the series — which will also mark the 100th concert since the community started the tradition — will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at the Issaquah Community Center, 301 Rainier Blvd. S.

The final concert in the series — which will also mark the 100th concert since the community started the tradition — will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at the Issaquah Community Center, 301 Rainier Blvd. S. The concert will feature “Freddy Pink,” playing everything from funk to Motown. The Concerts on the Green are presented in collaboration by the Issaquah Kiwanis Club and the Downtown Issaquah Association.

“Three years ago, we raised $126,000 for Hurricane Katrina relief, and those people were 2,000 miles away,” organizer Bill Werner said. “How much more should we be taking care of Issaquah’s needs?”

The food bank — or, officially, Issaquah Valley Community Services — provides help to families in Carnation, Snoqualmie, North Bend, Redmond, Fall City, Sammamish, Renton, Maple Valley, Preston, Hobart, Ravensdale and Issaquah.

Concert-goers and community members are asked to bring nonperishable food items, as well as backpacks and other back-to-school supplies to the concert, where Waste Management will provide four new recycling bins to collect the donations. For more information about what is specifically needed, visit the food bank’s Web site at www.issaquahfoodbank.org.

Or, to donate directly, bring goods to the Issaquah Food Bank at 179 First Ave. S.E. Donations can also be made online or mailed to the food bank at P.O. Box 652, Issaquah, WA 98027.
