College Drive or Gooseberry Lane?

While increased traffic has been the most serious concern raised about a new road that would lead to the Bellevue College campus coming to the Highlands, the more voiced concern is a debate of its name.

While increased traffic has been the most serious concern raised about a new road that would lead to the Bellevue College campus coming to the Highlands, the more voiced concern is a debate of its name.

Issaquah administrators have been pleased with the name College Drive, but it breaks away from the alphabetical order of the streets.

Other suggestions include “Gooseberry” or “Goldenrod,” said Keith Niven, a program manager for public works.

Citizens concerned about traffic point out that Grand Ridge Elementary is right in front of the future college location, but Niven said Northeast Park Drive can handle the traffic.

The community will be getting about $2 million in transportation improvements as a result of the complicated process that lead to the land being sold.

It includes a new traffic signal on Park and 15th Avenue Northeast, a new road that will parallel Park from Central Park to 15th, and the completion of a missing piece of Northeast Discovery Drive.
