LINKS: Looking Into the Needs of Kids and Schools is recruiting community volunteers to be Lunch Buddies. With the school year well underway, the need for LINKS Lunch Buddies in the Lake Washington School District is growing. The Lunch Buddy Program is a way for caring adults to help local elementary students succeed. Volunteers mentor students by meeting with them once a week and by acting as a positive role model. Lunch Buddies eat lunch together, play games, share talents or just talk. It’s an opportunity to make a life long impact on a child. Mentored students are more likely to do better in school, say NO to drugs and say YES to college! Please help us make a difference. Hospice Volunteer Training: Highline Medical Center’s Hospice program: is a nonprofit organization serving terminally ill patients and their families in South and East King County. Highline Hospice is recruiting caring and compassionate people interested in supporting terminally ill patients and their families. artEAST workshops in downtown Issaquah: October – December. artEAST offers many art classes this fall, from lectures in art history and art-teaching to hands-on workshops in jewelry, drawing, painting, and leather mask-making. University House Art Show: Faces and Figures, curated by Charlotte Beall opens Oct. 23 and runs through March 7, 2010, at University House, Issaquah retirement community – 22975 SE Black Nugget Road. This group exhibition showcases whimsical and expressive faces and figures represented in photographs, paintings, prints, mixed media, and ceramic sculptures. This grouping of portraiture artworks exemplifies the grace of human figures and the captivating expressions of people and animals. The Art of the Sari: A Photo Journey of Indian Artists and Textiles. The Sammamish Arts Commission will present The Art of the Sari in the Sammamish City Hall Commons Gallery, until Dec. 4. Brilliantly colored Saris will line the gallery, and an intricate form of sand painting called Rangoli will be created on the floor. Additionally, textiles, artists and people from craft villages in Northeastern and Western India will be presented in a series of photographic images by Michael Rainwater. The opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Wednesday, Sep. 16, from 6–8 p.m. in the gallery and is open to the public.

Cedar River Salmon Journey: Come to the Cedar River this fall for a free family friendly program on spawning salmon! Follow the salmon up the Cedar and learn about these amazing fish and the Cedar River.
