More than $5,000 was raised by the hungry students and friends of Discovery Elementary School at a spaghetti feed fundraiser for American Red Cross on Tuesday night.

The money will be used by the Red Cross to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. CEO of American Red Cross in King and Kitsap Counties, Randy Hutson, donned the chefs’ hat himself, and was helped by a team of generous volunteers, including PTSA parents, students like Annika Meyer, Alli Brazier and Selena Ando, and teachers, including Catherine Misner, and Mayor of Sammamish Don Gerend. “Some families used this fundraiser as a teachable moment, and had the kids pay for their meal to help contribute to the money going to Haiti,” said Discovery Principal Tera Coyle. “It was such a huge success!” Photos courtesy of Melissa Heitkamp
