Eastside Fire and Rescue is extending its burn ban until Oct. 20, because of the hot and dry weather has made grasses and brush more combustible.

The weather has been drier than normal this time of year, and as a result the fire agency is concerned that it could lead to more wildfires.

“We remain in a serious situation for the potential of a wildfire and with many resources east of the mountains, we need to take these unusual steps to limit the risk,” said Deputy Chief Bud Backer.

Residential and silvicultural fires are not permitted at this time. Only cooking fires in barbeques and recreational fires in approved fire pits are allowed.
