Eastside Catholic debaters dominate, advance to nationals

Eastside Catholic's debate team swept all four Student Congress spots March 3 in the National Forensic League’s tournament at Federal Way High School.

Eastside Catholic’s debate team swept all four Student Congress spots March 3 in the National Forensic League’s tournament at Federal Way High School.

EC also earned one of only two spots in Lincoln-Douglas debate (a one-on-one debate named for Abraham Lincoln and Steven Douglas).

In addition, senior Kyle Hendrix won Student of the Year for the Western Washington district, which is divided into three districts.

The group, which features John Perkins, Derek Holliday, Scott Hutchins, Tim O’Melia and Hendrix, has qualified for the National Speech & Debate Tournament this June in Indianapolis, Ind. Hendrix, Perkins and Hutchins have also qualified for the National Tournament of Champions.
