A long-time volunteer battalion chief who served at District 10 fire stations for 33 years has died.

A long-time volunteer battalion chief who served at District 10 fire stations for 33 years has died.

Eastside Fire and Rescue remembers John Waltosz for all the young volunteers he recruited and trained to help respond to emergency fire and medical calls in District 10.

His leadership, devotion of service and selflessness were formally recognized by EFR in 2007, when its board passed a resolution of gratitude.

He was a mentor to many and his determination and professional attitude inspired a generation of well-rounded career and volunteer firefighters. said EFR Fire Chief Lee Soptich. “John will be missed for his devotion to his family, his neighbors and community service.”The Volunteer Battalion Chief John Waltosz Inspiration Award was established in his honor.
