Issaquah police plan to have extra patrols during the holiday shopping season, aimed at warning people not to leave valuables in their cars.

On foot officers plan to hang out at popular spots for vehicle prowls starting Thanksgiving weekend. The officers plan to individually warn shoppers.

“Even if shoppers are leaving gifts and other purchases in their vehicles for a few minutes – that’s plenty of time for prowlers to act,” said Police Chief Paul Ayers. “Please be extra vigilant in locking up and making sure none of your valuables are visible.”

Police published a list of tips for preventing car prowls.

• Lock your vehicle every time you leave, even for a short time.

• Do not leave valuable items in plain view.

• Do not leave your vehicle running unattended.

• If you place items in the trunk, do it discreetly or before you arrive at your destination.
