Families join educators at expo

A free expo brought together educators and families for a night of networking and learning in Issaquah Tuesday night.

A series of guest speakers lectured on emerging issues in the education world, including nationally known entrepreneur Scott Oki, who spoke on necessary changes to the status quo in public schools nationwide.

Music teachers, summer camps and private schools filled the Pickering Barn, while a light crowd of parents and children streamed in and out.

“We want the community to know about our program,” said Joe Drovetto, the chief administrator at SnoSprings School.

While exposure was the goal, being able to network with other businesses was the larger benefit, he said.

The entertainment for the evening was a couple dozen SnoSprings kids, who played recorders.

While the booths took up most of the Pickering Barn, the main draw was a long list of guest speakers.

They attracted Liberty High School Counselor Dorothy Hay. “It’s a very cool program,” she said.

The new event was organized by the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce and Issaquah Sammamish and Beyond, a local magazine.
