A shelter on top of a 24-foot moving van, was the home of a number of firefighters over the weekend as part of the Eastside Firefighters Benevolent Fund’s 4th Annual Fill-The-Truck Food and Clothing Drive. The drive concludes today.
The event, in the parking lot of the Issaquah Fred Meyer store at 6100 East Lake Sammamish Pkwy. S.E., saw a number of firefighters stay overnight on the top of the 24-foot moving van to draw attention to the food drive. The truck was provided by First Due Movers.
The food drive continues through today and firefighters are asking resident to bring a wide variety of items, including chili; canned tuna, salmon, chicken; soups, both both and “cream of…”; Progresso (chunky & chicken); jelly, healthy snacks/ethnic foods; canned veggies — corn, carrots, peas; canned ravioli, canned fruit; tomato paste/sauce; dehydrated pinto beans; cooking oil; and powdered or shelf-stable milk.
In addition, number of personal care items are needed, including toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.); laundry soap and dish soap; cleaning products; new underwear (all sizes); diapers sizes 4-6 and baby wipes; camping equipment; and lightly used or new blankets.
