Pine Lake Covenant Church in Sammamish will host a forum to explore and offer suggestions on caring for aging parents from 7 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday night, March 10.

The one-night forum is open to the community, and admission is free.

Participants will hear from a panel of professionals who work with eldercare issues concerning:

• Home care decisions (parents choosing to live alone or parents living with their children);

• Finding community services (local health and medical resources, retirement communities, and long distance care);

• Legal and financial issues (handling the financial impact of transition and power of attorney, living wills); and

• Preparation for death (having that conversation and emotional care).

Presenters include: Linda Knodel, RN; Claire Petersky, executive director of Faith in Action; home health care professional Kathy Baker, RN; physical therapist Amy Breuninger; Brian Leavitt, broker/owner, Northstone Realty; Attorney at Law James Watt; Rev. Cindy Kirtland, chaplain, at Virginia Mason Hospital; and Rev. Marlowe Shoop, chaplain at Covenant Shores Retirement Community.

Participants will have the opportunity to talk with the presenters about their individual concerns. Resource information on a variety of topics in elder care will be available.

“The forum will help answer questions such as ‘how do we, as care-giving children, help our parents maintain their dignity and still meet their health and safety needs,’” said Sharon Anderson of Pine Lake Covenant Church. “How do we assist them in finding viable options to address physical, emotional and relational concerns.”

Pine Lake Covenant Church is located at 1715 228th Avenue SE in Sammamish.
