Garbage workers strike

If the strike continues, Robinson said Waste Management's contingency plans would provide pickup next week.

KIROTV.com, is reporting that Seattle-area garbage workers represented by Teamsters Union Local 174 have gone on strike, as they protest work and pay conditions with their employer, Waste Management.

Waste Management is one of two garbage companies serving Sammamish and Issaquah.

A spokesperson for Waste Management, Susan Robinson, said it’s unclear if the garbage workers are planning to continue their strike tomorrow.

The City of Sammamish is currently advising customers to put their garbage out as usual.

If the strike continues, Robinson said Waste Management’s contingency plans would provide pickup next week.

The City of Issaquah is telling residents that the city is not a party in the ongoing discussions between the Waste Management and union leaders, but is working with Waste Management to ensure the company’s contingency plans are implemented.

The City encourages residents to contact their waste collection service providers if they have questions.
