Green tinge to latest Salmon Days award

The Issaquah Salmon Days Festival has been named 2010 Event Recycler of the Year by the Washington State Recycling Association.

Adding to its ever-expanding trophy cabinet of industry awards and plaudits, the Issaquah Salmon Days Festival has been named 2010 Event Recycler of the Year by the Washington State Recycling Association.

Thanks to the great efforts, and the green tinge, of organizers, all food vendors at the 2009 festival were required to use only compostable service ware and to-go products, in line with the city’s own ban on polystyrene food packaging.

In winning the award, Salmon Days was recognized for the overall environmental and economic benefit of its efforts, its innovation and a level of commitment to recycling.

In accepting the award, Salmon Days organizers paid tribute to the City of Issaquah’s Resource Conservation Office and Cedar Grove Composting, who helped make the 2009 festival the first ever compostable event.
