The Rotary Club of Sammamish this month honored two students.

Skyline High School students Jake Knecht and Kelly West were chosen for English and social studies, respectively.

Knecht is a senior, and the son of Jeff and Mary-Ann Knecht. He lists his interests as bowling, ping pong and pickle ball, as well as baseball, football and English literature. He lists a high GPA as an achievement and is a member of the National Honor Society. Knecht is also involved in a variety of activities, such as Athletes for Kids, where he mentors a younger child. He is also the head coach for a special Olympics basketball team. His future goals include attending a four-year university to become an English teacher, a landscape designer/architect or something in business management.

Kelly West is a senior, and daughter of David West. She listed her interests as going to concerts, drawing and painting, and baking for her friends. Her achievements include a high GPA and SAT score, and she is a National Merit Commended Student. She is also the vice president of Skyline High School’s Amnesty International. West plans to attend a small, liberal-arts school where she hopes to be pre-med or study psychology. She intends to be a psychiatrist or biologist.

Issaquah Rotary students of month

The Rotary Club of Issaquah this month honored four students.

Issaquah High School student Mia Radic was honored for social studies, and Heather Morris for language arts.

Liberty High School students Olivia Baumgartner and Andy Boes were selected for language arts and social studies, respectively

Radic is a senior, and the daughter of Tanya Radic. She lists her interests as debate, reading and going to concerts. Her list of achievements include: AP Scholar Award, a National Merit Commendation, Washington Generals Essay Contest winner, a 4.0 GPA for two years, and a letter in volleyball. She maintains a rigorous AP schedule of classes, and is involved in Washington Democrats and Youth Vote. She plans to attend Columbia University for a degree in biomedical studies, then earn master’s and doctorate degrees. She hopes to be a university professor.

Morris is a senior, and the daughter of Mike and Julie Morris. She lists her interests as skiing and photography, and lists her achievements as a high GPA, a National Honor Society member and a Scholar Athlete. She is the girl’s varsity basketball captain, and is the lead Athletes for Kids mentor at IHS. Outside of school, she is involved in Athletes for Kids, interned for Washington State Democrats/Campaign for Change, and has been a Relay for Life team captain. She plans to earn an economics degree at a four-year university, study abroad for one year, and then move on to law school. Morris hopes to be a lawyer specializing in public policy.

Baumgartner is a senior, and the daughter of John and Jennifer Baumgartner. She lists her interests as theater, writing and reading. She has lettered in drama for three years, and been a member of the International Thespian Society and the Patriot Players. Baumgartner plans to attend college after graduating from high school, and one day be a theater director in an inner city, underprivileged school.

Boes is a senior, and the son of Gene and June Boes. He lists his interests as reading, debate, and recreational sports. He is involved in mock trial at Liberty High School, is the school mascot, and is the Associated Student body Director of Interhigh Activities. Outside of school, he is a First Swing Baseball Camp coach, and a member of the Issaquah Youth Advisory Board. His achievements include a National Merit Commendation and a Mock Trial Outstanding Attorney Award. He plans to attend the University of Notre Dame, where he will dual major in English and Political Science. Boes hopes to be a politician.
