Medics rushed to a Monday morning rush-hour accident on Westbound I-90 near Sunset Way in Issaquah after a motorist flipped over his vehicle, coming to rest in the bottom of a ravine.

Eastside Fire and Rescue (EFR) and State Patrol units rushed to the scene just east of the Sunset Way interchange at around 7:15 a.m. and located the vehicle, which had careened about 200 yards off the roadway and into a ravine. EFR spokesperson Josie Williams said a man in his 40s was found breathing and still inside the vehicle, but unconscious.

The man was removed through the vehicle’s sunroof and immediately transported by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center.

“I was on the freeway at that time,” Williams said. “It was pretty gummed up from Preston all the way though to Sunset Way.”

WSDOT reported traffic back-ups at over a mile as emergency crews blocked the right lane for emergency vehicles. The accident scene was cleared at 7:42 a.m.

The condition of the unidentified motorist is presently unknown. Check back at The Reporter for further updates.
