Candidates interested in running for city council must file with King County starting May 11.

All forms must be returned by May 15 at 4 p.m.

There is a filing fee of about $100 to file for Sammamish City Council and of about $80 for Issaquah City Council.

There are three council seat openings on both the Sammamish and Issaquah councils.

Terms ending this year in Sammamish include Mayor Tom Vance (position 6) and council members Ramiro Valderrama-Aramayo (position 4) and Nancy Whitten (position 2).

Terms ending this year in Issaquah include council member Nina Milligan (position 2), Joshua Schaer (position 4) and Paul Winterstein (position 6).

None of the Sammamish council members have announced whether or not they will seek re-election; however, Sammamish resident Christie Malchow announced her candidacy earlier this month. It is still unclear which seat she is running for.

Issaquah human services commission chair Bill Ramos announced on April 13 he would run for position No. 4 on the Issaquah council, currently held by Schaer.

Schaer has said he will not seek re-election, as has Milligan.

The deadline date for a candidate to withdraw from running is May 18 at 4:30 p.m. Local voters’ pamphlet submission for the general election are due from July 20 at 8:30 a.m. through Aug. 7 at 4:30 p.m.

King County will host two, two-hour candidate workshops. Anyone is welcome to the free event.

The workshops will cover filing for office in the county, submitting local voters’ pamphlet information voter lists and data management, campaign sign regulations and basic public disclosure information.

The workshops will be held at King County Elections at 919 SW Grady Way in Renton on April 24 from 2-4 p.m. and April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon.Attendees must RSVP via email.
