Issaquah City Council elects new council president, deputy president

Councilmember Tola Marts was unanimously elected the 2018 Issaquah City Council president at the Jan. 2 meeting, the first meeting of the new year.

Former Council President Stacy Goodman, who served in the position from 2016 through 2017, nominated Marts.

Marts was elected to the council in November 2009 and is beginning his third term.

At the same meeting, Councilmember Mariah Bettise was unanimously elected deputy council president, a position held for the past two years by Mary Lou Pauly, Issaquah’s new mayor.

Marts nominated Bettise for the position.

Bettise was appointed to fill a vacancy on the council in May 2016 and was elected to fill out the remaining two years of the term in November 2017.

Councilmember Bill Ramos was not present for the votes.
