Issaquah city flag lowered for death of Des Moines soldier in Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Matthew McClintock was killed in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan on Jan. 5.

The city of Issaquah lowered its flags to half-staff Thursday to recognize the recent death of a Des Moines man in the Washington National Guard.

Staff Sgt. Matthew McClintock was killed in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan on Jan. 5. He died from wounds sustained from small arms fire in action, according to the Department of Defense. The National Guard posthumously promoted him to sergeant first class.

McClintock was originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was stationed with the National Guard at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Issaquah joined other public agencies in lowering its flag.
