Issaquah man killed in State Route 900 crash

An Issaquah man was killed early Friday morning in a one-car accident on State Route 900 in Renton.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., a black 2006 BMW 325 was traveling eastbound on State Route 900 near 171st Place Southeast when it veered off of the right side of the road. The vehicle rolled over, came to a rest in a field and caught on fire.

Washington State Patrol toopers identified the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle as Richard A. Carothers, 55, of Issaquah. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trooper Chase Van Cleave said that there are many reasons why a car might veer off the road, such as speed, or, given the hour of the accident, the driver falling asleep at the wheel.

“There are too many to list and too many to assume,” he said of the potential reasons.

It is unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the incident.
