Issaquah Mayor Fred Butler has returned home from the hospital and is recovering from a recent heart attack, city officials confirmed Monday. In a show of support, Issaquah City Council members held up a series of signs reading “Get well soon Fred!!!” at their Monday evening meeting.

Butler, 76, was admitted to Swedish Medical Center in Issaquah after suffering a heart attack April 10.

Council President Stacy Goodman was named acting mayor in Butler’s absence, fulfilling his executive duties while retaining her voting rights as a member of the City Council.

“[Butler] continues to make excellent progress toward recovery,” Goodman said at Monday night’s council meeting. “Earlier today Fred said he was very grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes.”

State Senator Mark Mullet, visiting the meeting to provide a report on the current special legislative session, offered his own words of support.

“We love you, Fred,” the 5th District state senator said. “This has been a tough week, I think, for the whole city. … We can’t wait for you to get healthy and get back in here again.”
