Issaquah Mayor Fred Butler, who continues to recover from a recent heart attack, is set to return to office May 16, Mayor Pro Tempore Stacy Goodman said Monday.

“We are very happy about that,” Goodman said during Monday’s Issaquah City Council meeting.

Butler, 76, suffered the heart attack April 10 and was submitted to Swedish Medical Center in Issaquah. He returned home April 18.

Goodman, who assumed Butler’s executive duties while he’s recovering, said she has visited him and reports he’s been keeping up on city business.

“We have kept in close contact while he recuperates,” she said. “He is also staying updated on city business and participated in the last Sound Transit meeting via telephone.”

The next regular Issaquah City Council meeting is at 7 p.m. May 16.
