Issaquah Mayor Ava Frisinger was named this week as Public Official of the Year by the Municipal League of King County.

Issaquah Mayor Ava Frisinger was named this week as Public Official of the Year by the Municipal League of King County.

Frisinger was one of eight individuals and three organizations to receive the league’s 50th annual Civic Award for outstanding contributions to the community.

“I was very surprised, and very honored. It’s astonishing,” Frisinger said. “I’ve been involved with regional issues for a long time, in a wide range of issues … I’m pleased that someone from Issaquah can be recognized and that I’m able to be of use to the community and the region.”

The award ceremony will be held at the Seattle Art Museum’s downtown location on Wednesday, March 25.

The awardees were nominated by the public, evaluated by the League’s Civic Awards Committee and approved by the League’s trustees.

The Public Official of the Year Award recognizes a public official or department head who, in addition to routine service, has brought to the office outstanding innovations or contributions.

The Municipal League created the Civic Awards in 1960 to honor a diverse array of community leadership.
