Issaquah Police chief Paul Ayers, retiring

The city of Issaquah’s administration is looking for a new police chief.

The city of Issaquah’s administration is looking for a new police chief.

Chief Paul Ayers and his wife Rosie Ayers are both retiring from their respective jobs. Chief Ayers has been the Chief of the Issaquah Police Department since 2007, moving here after serving as the chief of police in Lewiston, Idaho. He has been in law enforcement since for approximately 40 years.

The city plans to find the new police chief internally. A panel of community members and staff will make a recommendation to Mayor Fred Butler.

Rosie Ayers has worked for Eastside Fire and Rescue. Both will be retiring, April 15.

In the EFR newsletter, which comes out every Friday, Rosie Ayers said “Paul and I have enjoyed our time in Issaquah, but are looking forward to retiring in Boise, Idaho, closer to my family. I appreciate having the opportunity to work with great people who care about their profession. Thank you for the support and encouragement you have provided me during my time with Eastside Fire and Rescue. I have worked in the HR field for over 30 years and it is time to spend more time with my best friend of over 42 years, Paul.”

Chief Ayers said he informed former Mayor Ava Frisinger last summer that he planned to retire, and after Mayor Fred Butler was elected he informed him of his plans.

He said the majority of Rosie’s family lives in Boise, and his sister also lives in Idaho. They’re having a home built for them, which will be ready when they arrive in Boise.

John Minato, the head of the Development Services Department for the city, resigned from the city staff after approximately 20 years. A recruiting firm is helping to fill that position.
