Issaquah public hearing on Costco parking structure

The City of Issaquah Development Commission is holding a public hearing on Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. to discuss the proposed Costco parking structure. The meeting will be held in the city council’s chambers on E. Sunset Way.

According to the city, the first level would be below ground and the top would be rooftop parking. The building would not exceed the height of a three story structure. The project would be located on NW Lake Drive south of the Pickering Barn, and would eliminate 583 surface level parking spaces and create 1,601 parking stalls in its place.

Mark Pywell, the city’s planner on the project, said Costco has been working on this project for over a year and that they are now looking to get land use permits, but that the company is unsure when they will actually submit building permits. Once land use permits have been attained a project has up to three years to submit building permits. Pywell said the garage is intended to be used only for Costco. The current agreement between the city and Costco to use existing parking as overflow during events at the Pickering Barn would remain in place.

“Costco is looking towards further development of their site, but at this time they are not submitted any plans for additional office area,” said Pywell. The extra space, which the garage would provide, is necessary when the company has large events where staff which work on other sites need to come to headquarters to view vender products.
