Issaquah School Board Director Lisa Callan has announced her candidacy for state representative of the 5th Legislative District.

“I’m running for everyone in the 5th who, like me, has deep concerns for the safety of our kids and community, who wants great schools and manageable taxes, and whose life, pocketbook, and businesses are taking a huge hit because of traffic,” Callan said in a press release.

Callan serves on the Issaquah School Board, previously serving as board president. She has been an active classroom and PTSA volunteer at her son’s school, and has held numerous PTSA leadership roles. She is active with the Volunteers for Issaquah Schools, a supporter of the Issaquah Schools Foundation, a member of Kiwanis and the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce, and has served as a loaned executive to the United Way of King County.

Previously, Callan was a lead engineer at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. She was also a software consultant with Cambridge Technology Partners working as a project/program manager for large, full-life-cycle software development programs.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to bring my business background, my technology background and education experience to the legislature,” Callan said. “We have so many challenges with school-to-workforce pipelines, small-business opportunity, our public schools and traffic that need to be addressed. I believe my background can help get results.”

Callan has a bachelor of science degree in mathematics with a computer science emphasis from Northern Arizona University.

She lives with her husband, Bryan, and her son in the Issaquah Highlands.
