The King County Council approved the use of $1 million from the 2014 County Parks Levy Monday night to expand the Cougar/Squak Mountain Corridor.

The money will be used to purchase additional land adjacent to the 730-acre public park. The County Department of Natural Resources and Parks previously opened a 216-acre expansion to the public in June 2015.

The expansion will include a point overlooking the area foothills and valleys, council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn said.

“The purchase of this property provides for a spectacular viewpoint of the surrounding area,” Dunn said in a published announcement. “This purchase, along with the surrounding land acquired in 2014, completes the trail system, increases passive recreation and provides for more conservation of wildlife habitat.”
