Lake Sammamish State Park seeks volunteers for educational programs

Rangers with Lake Sammamish State Park will offer docent training for potential volunteers in February.

Park administrators are looking for volunteers to assist in interpretive programs alongside park rangers.

In the context of parks, museums and other educational or recreational sites, heritage interpretation encompasses all the means by which information is communicated to visitors.

According to information provided by the Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park, a nonprofit parks advocate, Lake Sammamish State Park’s interpretive programs deal with topics such as the park’s geology, ecology, avian wildlife and natural history.

Volunteers who complete docent training will receive a Lake Sammamish State Park Master Docent Certificate and begin leading programs in the spring.The training will consist of four two-hour classes 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 2, Feb. 4, Feb. 9 and Feb. 11. The cost is $20, or $10 for senior citizens and students.

Training will be held at the park’s administrative office. The park is located at 2000 N.W. Sammamish Road in Issaquah.
