Local student writes song, wins $8,000 scholarship

Eastlake High School senior Amy Wisegarver, 18, placed third in consumer banking corporation Sallie Mae’s nationwide “Make College Happen” challenge, earning herself an $8,000 college scholarship.

Hundreds of students across the country applied by creatively describing how they planned to pay for college.

Wisegarver wrote and performed a song describing her hard work in school and her struggles with assembling enough money to attend her lifelong dream school, Chapman University in Orange, California.

Winners were announced on April 20 via Facebook Live.

The artistic student started her own T-shirt design business her junior year of high school, Wiseass Apparel. She plans to continue her love of design by studying graphic design at Chapman University.
