The following information was compiled from city of Sammamish and Issaquah police reports.
A sushi chef at a Sammamish grocery store witnessed a 22-year-old man pick up a rainbow roll and take it to the store’s bathroom April 24. When the man exited, he no longer had the sushi with him. The suspect was stopped by store representatives and admitted to eating the sushi in the bathroom.
While searching the suspect, police found several fire starters — matches and lighters — including alcohol wipes and cotton swabs. The man, who had previously been entered as a suspect in a 2006 arson case, was taken into custody.
SUSPICIOUS MALE
A Sammamish woman called police April 27 to report a suspicious man at a park near her home in the 1200 block of 216 Avenue Northeast.
The woman said she saw the man — approximately 30 years old, 6-feet tall and a thin build — walk past the Montessori school towards the park. Her senses were immediately “heightened.” When the man arrived at the park, he went to the jungle gym bars and started doing leg lifts. He then started walking around the playground very slowly in a circle.
The caller reported one woman left the park with her child after the man’s strange behavior. The reporting party also decided to leave the park when the man began to stare at her and her granddaughter.
As she walked to her car, the woman saw the man clinch both hands into fists, straighten his arms out, then turn around and go back the direction he came from. The incident bothered the woman so much, she decided to call police the following day.
SLASHED TRAMPOLINE
A Sammamish man called police April 23, concerned that his neighbor may have vandalized his trampoline.
The man, who lives in the 3400 block of Eastlake Sammamish Shore Lane Northeast, said he had a confrontation with his neighbor the day before about where he was placing his trampoline. The neighbor was upset and asked the man to place it in the opposite corner of the yard. He said the positioning of the trampoline near his property would upset his son, who was no longer allowed to play with the trampoline owner’s son after a fight two years ago.
The owner declined to move the trampoline, which allegedly resulted in a threat from his neighbor. When the owner woke up in the morning, he found a large slice through his trampoline.
The neighbor denied any wrong doing when contacted by the police.
Asked if he would like to desire prosecution against his neighbor if it were provable, the trampoline owner declined, but said his is considering a court order after his neighbor’s recent aggressive behavior. The previous night, the neighbor called to report an illegal fire, which was in a pit and deemed legal. Police also responded to that incident after the fire department alerted them of the dispute.
BEAR VS. DOGS
Two domesticated dogs got into a fight with a black bear in Issaquah.
The bear was familiar to the neighbors, who had seen it break into a garage to steal some garbage. As it wandered through a backyard April 15, it came into contact with two dogs and a couple.
The dogs approached the bear, barking. The bear stood on its hind legs and began swatting at the dog, hitting the largest one in the snout.
The couple started yelling at the bear, but it stood its ground a bit before deciding to leave the 5500 block of 231st Avenue Southeast.
ROAD RAGE
Police arrested a man for disorderly conduct after he threatened a guy for allegedly cutting him off in a coffee drive thru.
Police were meeting for coffee off East Lake Sammamish Parkway, when they got a call that a man was beating on the driver’s window, taking photos and giving threats.
When they found the man, they told him not to approach the victim again, but as soon as the officers left him to discuss the incident, he got out of his car and headed for the victim in a threatening manner.
The police arrested him with some difficulty, and hauled him to jail. The man insisted he had the right to confront the man for what he had done March 29.
The victim told police they arrived at about the same time, and he didn’t think he had cut him off.
HEROIN FOUND
A manager at the Sammamish McDonald’s called police April 22 to report a small bag of suspected drugs found on the bathroom floor.
When Sammamish police arrived they found what appeared to be black tar heroin in a bag with little green alien figures printed all over it.
The drugs, which weighed in at .2 grams, were submitted into evidence for disposal.
MULTIPLE CAR PROWLS
Eight different Sammamish residents in the northeast part of the city made reports of their vehicles being rummaged through on April 22.
In most cases, there was little to nothing taken.
One unlucky resident in the 1800 block of 211 Court Northeast had both his laptop and wallet stolen.
In all the cases the vehicles were either unlocked or windows were left down.
VANDALISM
Sammamish police were dispatched to a vandalism case April 21 after a man reported someone had thrown a rock through one of his home windows in the 800 block of 216th Avenue Northeast.
The rock, which did not appear to be from the man’s property, shattered the outside of a double-pain window and caused $200 in damage.
PHONE THEFT
An Inglewood Junior High School student had his iPhone 4S stolen in the Eastlake High School locker room April 28 while he was at football practice.
