Metropolitan Market to open in Sammamish March 22

Metropolitan Market, the grocery supermarket that will anchor the developing Sammamish Town Center, will hold its grand opening in Sammamish at 9 a.m. on March 22, the grocer announced Tuesday.

The 35,000-square-foot Sammamish store, located at 301 228th Ave. SE across from Eastside Catholic, will be Metropolitan Market’s seventh location. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will feature both regional and international specialty products.

Sammamish City Manager Lyman Howard called the store’s opening “a catalyst and a precursor for things to come” in the Town Center.

“We’re really looking forward to it. It’s been a long time coming,” Howard said. “I think by the fact that Metropolitan Market did decide to locate in Sammamish, it’s basically given other folks notice that the Town Center is up and coming.”

Helen Neville, an executive with Metropolitan Market, told the Reporter the grocer aims to provide a one-stop shop and central meeting area for community members and their families with its newest location.

“We are so excited about opening in Sammamish,” Neville said. “We’ve been working closely with the community for several years and we’re excited to share the opening with everyone. This is really very special.”

The first 500 guests on March 22 will receive a reusable grocery tote bag, 20 of which will hold a hidden $100 gift card. The store also plans to host a variety of tastings and demos throughout its opening week.

Inside the store, patrons will find grocery essentials as well as an assortment of grab-and-go items and build-your-own bars that include a salad bar, hot bar, soup station, a coffee bar and a bakery.

Made-to-order items will include a new Best Bowl program, which will feature Asian, Vietnamese and Korean-inspired dishes such as ramen and sautéed noodles.

The store’s cafe will feature more breakfast options, which Neville said is also a new offering from the store, for the morning crowd passing through on their way to work or school. A mezzanine seating area for dining will be located on the store’s second level.

Developed by TRF Pacific, Metropolitan Market will anchor the 6.5-acre Sammamish Village at Town Center, which will also feature Jersey Mike’s Subs, Chipotle, T-Mobile, Issaquah Nails, a Wagly Pet campus and medical and dental offices. The Town Center site will also include 159 apartment units and 343 parking spaces. The site was developed to include eco-friendly features such as rainwater harvesting for irrigation, LED lighting and pervious paving to help manage surface water.
