Microsoft sells Highland parcel for $54,000,000

Documents recorded in King County Oct. 18 reveal that the Issaquah Highlands Investment Fund, which is in the same office as Polygon Northwest in Bellevue, paid $54,000,000 for the two parcels Microsoft owned in the Issaquah Highlands.

The total of the two parcels is 63-acres. The property is near Swedish Hospital, which has a development agreement in the works now to build an office building for doctors. Polygon Northwest has “no comment” as to its plans for the property. Derek Straight, a Polygon executive, is the registered agent for the Issaquah Highlands Investment Fund.

In July, Microsoft announced it would not be renewing its lease at the building Vulcan Properties owns at 21930 SE 51st St. in Issaquah. The building is part of Sammamish Park Place where Microsoft has a large presence. Microsoft employees also occupy two more buildings Vulcan owns in Sammamish Park Place, both with leases ending in the next couple of years.

This recent transaction points to the fact that Redmond-based Microsoft is no longer interested in maintaing a presence in Issaquah.

Representatives for Microsoft did not return calls to The Reporter.

Issaquah mayor Ava Frisinger said Polygon hopes to break ground within a year on a mixed-use project. Bellevue College is also in talks with the city to build a campus in the Highlands.
