The following information was compiled from City of Sammamish police reports:
A man called police June 3 to report two suspicious duffle bags in the back yard of his home in the 400 block of 208 Avenue Northeast in Sammamish.
The bags were open and had what appeared to be bongs inside. One bag had “Skyline Spartans” written on the side and the other had “Do you Hookah” on the side. One of the bongs was broken and the other was intact. There was also a black box in one of the bags and other items of little to no value.
Police took the bongs to be destroyed.
CAR KEYED
A woman called police June 2 after her vehicle was keyed in the Sammamish Safeway parking lot.
The woman’s daughter was sitting in the car and said she saw an older white male with shoulder length grey hair looking at her. At the same time, she heard a screeching noise that sounded like the car was being scratched.
She then saw the man get into an older classic style ’40s car that was grey with yellow flames.
SIDEWAYS
An Eastlake High School student couldn’t lie himself out of trouble June 6.
The 17-year-old was found with his car sideways in the middle of Southeast 4th Place and 238th Avenue Southeast. When police arrived the boy told them it was his friend’s car and he had taken off.
Police later called the number the boy had given them and discovered it belonged to him.
He was taken into custody and later admitted to driving too fast and sliding out of control into the curb.
CHILD NEGLECT
Police spotted two young girls walking alone through the Pine Lake Community Center parking lot June 6.
One of the girls, 9, was wearing a short skimpy skirt and high heels, the other was 6 years old.
When police asked the girls what they were doing by themselves, they initially said their babysitter left them alone.
They later recanted and said that their father wouldn’t wake up to drive them to school. When police arrived at the girls’ home they awoke a man, who was confirmed to be their father. CPS was called to further investigate the situation.
HOME BURGLARY
A Sammamish resident in the 20700 block of Southeast 3rd Way called police June 5 to report someone broke into her house and stole more than $22,000 worth of jewelry.
One of the rings, a 3/4 karat diamond solitaire, was valued at $10,0000. The thieves appeared to enter through a bedroom window.
BUSTED AT SCHOOL
A Skyline student was found possessing a single marijuana joint at school June 4.
The boy hid the item in an empty Marlboro cigarette box. He initially tried to claim the found the box at the skate park and didn’t know there was a joint there.
He lated confessed, saying , “I was dumb, I don’t know why I brought it to school, I was dumb.”
BURGLARS USE BBQ TONGS
A Sammamish man called police the afternoon of June 5 to report someone broke into his home and stole a safe with numerous valuables in it.
The burglars broke the deadbolt off the rear kitchen door of the home in the 5100 block of 189 Avenue Northeast with what appeared to be the man’s barbecue tongs.
There were more than $19,000 in items in the safe, including a wedding ring valued at $3,500.
BROKEN SPRINKLERS
Sammamish police discovered seven broken sprinkler heads on June 7 in the planters near the city’s skateboard park.
They also founds several broken pieces near a garbage can.
REPEAT VICTIMS
A Sammamish man called police June 6 to report his home had been burglarized.
Thieves made off with more than $3,000 in items from the home in the 2900 block of 196 Avenue Southeast, including several pieces of sterling silver.
The home owner was wearing latex gloves when police arrived, going through his items. The man said this was the third time he and his wife had been burglarized. He showed police he had reinforced his front and back doors with locking deadbolts.
FRAUD
A Sammamish woman called police June 8 to report that someone withdrew more thank $25,000 from her savings account on three separate occasions from April through May.
All three transactions occurred in Southern California.
PROPERTY FOUND
A Sammamish man alerted police June 6 that he found mail inside his yard waste bin in the 5100 block of 190 Place Northeast.
The mail was from three different addresses, including one home in Sammamish and two others in Redmond.
