Opal Ferguson, formerly of Issaquah, died March 20, 2012. She was 89.

She was one of seven children born to Eva and Jessie Bishop. Opal grew up in Ashland, Kentucky during the Depression. She dropped out of school to help her mother pay the bills, as did several of her siblings.

At age 18, Opal met Bernard “Fergie” Ferguson, a musician and singer. They were married on Dec. 7, 1939. Several years later they moved to Cleveland, Ohio. They had two children, Diane and Cynthia.

She and her husband moved to Issaquah in 1985. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and daughter, Cindy in 1991.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28 in the fireside room of Orcas Community Church.
