Police chase dirt bike through Sammamish

Both occupants were not wearing helmets and the dirt bike was not equipped with any lights or license plates. Police began pursuit, exceeding speeds of 90 mph to try and close the gap.

Sammamish police spotted a dirt bike traveling southbound in the 3300 block of East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast, going well above the posted 35 mph zone.At the 3700 block, the officer watched the dirt bike slow and try to make a left turn on Southeast 39th Street, but it was still traveling way too fast to negotiate the turn.

The bike wobbled back and forth and both occupants hit the ground. Neither the driver or the passenger were injured. The dirt bike operator was arrested for his reckless driving, stating, “I know I messed up big time.” The two occupants were borrowing the bike from a friend.

 

Thief nabs $1.4 million check from mailbox

A home owner in the 3300 block of 217 Place Southeast in Sammamish reported that sometime between Dec. 27 and Jan.

4 someone stole a trust check from his mailbox worth $1.4 million. A stop payment was made on the check, which was written for a recent home sale.

The owner was also missing a couple of packages that had been delivered including a $700 Burberry purse and a $500 jogging stroller. Also stolen from the exterior of the home’s fence was a reflective sign that said “Smile you’re on camera.”

 

Drunk takes out trees, fire hydrant

A drunk Issaquah woman hit several trees and a road sign before stopping on top of a fire hydrant in an Issaquah neighborhood Dec. 29.When police arrived, they also found a tree under her car and a bottle of beer rolling around on the floorboards. Both the front passenger airbags had engaged.

The police found the driver and passenger sitting on a couch inside the home near where they had crashed. The 20-year-old driver denied having had anything to drink. The officer asked them to step outside, so the homeowners could go to bed. It was about 2:30 a.m.The officer could smell alcohol on her breath from several feet away. A search of her person revealed a fake ID, which she used to get into bars.

As she searched through her car for her valid license, she repeatedly opened and closed her glove box, which had a baggy of marijuana in it.The boyfriend said the woman picked him up in Capitol Hill and was driving him to her home, when she sped around a corner going 40 mph and lost control of the car.

The boyfriend called police. The woman was arrested and her blood alcohol level came back at .19 percent.

 

Go team, go

Police were mistakenly called to a domestic violence incident on Front Street South, after a married couple began shouting excitedly over a college football game Jan. 2.

The husband and wife were rooting for opposite teams. There was no sign of altercation

 

House ransacked

Between $7,000 and $10,000 worth of jewelry and small electronics were taken from  in the 300 block of 219 Avenue Northeast in Sammamish the afternoon of Jan. 5.

The burglar entered through the rear glass French door by breaking the glass with an unknown object.

 

‘Wyoming’

Someone reported that they saw a man walking around a public parking lot with a holstered gun while yelling “Wyoming” on Dec. 24.

The reporting party thought it was weird, because while the man didn’t unholster or motion toward his gun, he also didn’t appear to be walking to any particular vehicle on the 6100 block of East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast.

No one else made such a call, and police cleared the area without finding such a man.

 

Bad neighbors

Someone called police after his neighbors guest urinated off the top balcony on Front Street South. The neighbor told police he had a friend over, and kicked him out of the apartment after the display Jan. 4.

 

Domestic disturbance

A mother in the 20000 block of Northeast 19th Place in Sammamish reported that her adult son punched three holes in his bedroom wall Dec. 30 after he accused of her of “nagging” him to go out and find a job.

The son responded by saying he took medicine for his back pain which makes him tired and that it prevented him from finding work. The mother told her son to stop taking the medication because it was bad for him. He responded by storming out of the home. Police were unable to find him.

 

Mailbox smashed

A home owner in the 21000 block of Southeast 16 Place in Sammamish reported someone smashed the mailbox of his rental home sometime in the early hours of Jan. 5.

The box was still attached to a broken post and it was bent. The home owner was convinced the mailbox was singled out. Asked why, he gave no reason, but said “I just know they are trying to make more work for me.”

 

Car window broken out

An owner of Dodge Durango in the 3300 block of 216 Place Southeast in Sammamish reported someone smashed out his rear window on Dec. 29.

Vandals threw what appeared to be a 4x4x12 wooden sign post through the back window. The investigating officer noticed a road sign was removed from Southeast 34th Street, near the intersection of 216th Place Southeast.

 

Someplace warm

When employees of a sports bar on Gilman Boulevard found a drunk homeless man hanging out in their bathroom, they got into an argument before he left through the back door.

He told police that he was cold. Someone who recognized him offered to give him a ride to IHOP and another person gave him $20 in cash.

 

Punch flies outside tavern

A 20-something-year-old man, wearing a puffy charcoal jacket and blue jeans, punched someone outside a tavern on Sunset Way on New Years Day at about 1 a.m.

The Issaquah police station was on the same block, but by time police arrived the suspect had left.

 

After hours soliciting

Police tracked down two Mormon missionaries who were ringing doorbells at about 9 p.m. on New Year’s day and told them they were breaking hours for solicitors.

The call came in from the 100 block of Cougar Ridge Road Northwest.
