Power restored, roads cleared for a large portion of Sammamish residents

A large portion of Sammamish residents woke up to good news Thursday as power has been restored to a significant chunk of the Plateau.

A large portion of Sammamish residents woke up to good news Thursday as power has been restored to most of the Plateau.

At its peak yesterday, close to 15,000 Sammamish residents were without electricity. As of 9:30 a.m., today, Puget Sound Energy reported the number is down to 2,820 customers.

“They’re continuing to work on it, but it could be sometime over the weekend until it’s fully restored,” said Tim Larson, communications manager for the City of Sammamish.

Residents should be aware that surges or more outages are possible as branches are still heavy with ice and will be hit with winds reaching as high as 21 mph later today.

Area roads are also becoming easier to navigate.

East Lake Sammamish Parkway, which was blocked mid-afternoon Thursday by downed power lines was reopened around 1 a.m., today. The blockage was just north of 212th Way Southeast.

According to Larson, the main arterials in Sammamish are clear and city road crews are moving onto side roads and neighborhood streets. Snake Hill Road is still closed, however, until further notice.

City Hall will remain open as a warming station until 5 p.m. today. Residents who are still without power can use the facilities to charge cell phones, warm up, or grab a cup of coffee.

People are also encouraged to clear storm drains clogged with snow and ice to prevent to prevent flooding.
