Sammamish garbage pick up back on schedule

Waste Management recycling and yard waste drivers ended their strike Wednesday night after reaching a tentative agreement on a 6-year contract.

The strike is over.

Sammamish residents who live north of Northeast 8th Street and Inglewood Hill Road, approximately 1/3 of the city’s population, will have their garbage picked up today after Waste Management and Teamsters Local 117 reached a tentative agreement Wednesday night on a new 6-year contract.

According to the Waste Management website, recycling and yard waste collection will be limited on Thursday due to the timing of a ratification vote.

The strike began July 25 following failed contract negotiations between Waste Management and Teamsters Local 117, which represents recoiling and yard waste drivers.

In a move of solidarity Teamsters Local 174, which represents garbage truck drivers, also went on strike.

The strike has disrupted services to approximately 220,000 across the region.
