Joseph Brown, 18, was ejected from his 2013 Ford Mustang after colliding with another vehicle on Beaver Lake Drive Southeast Aug. 12 around 10:12 p.m., according to the King County Sheriff's Office. He was not wearing his seat belt.

An 18-year-old Sammamish resident died from his injuries after a car crash Aug. 12, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Brown, identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, was ejected from his 2013 Ford Mustang after sideswiping a minivan on Beaver Lake Drive Southeast around 10:12 p.m., according to the county. He was not wearing his seat belt.

Brown’s vehicle veered off the road and down an embankment where it hit a tree on the 2800 block of Beaver Lake Drive Southeast, according to lead Detective Jeanne Walford of King County’s major accident response and reconstruction unit.

The evidence shows Brown was traveling “well in excess of the 25 mile per hour” speed limit, Walford said. Although, as the investigation is still open, she is unsure how fast he was going.

There were four people, two adults and two children, in the 2006 Honda Odyssey Minivan Brown struck. All were reportedly wearing their seat belts. The 15-year-old girl was taken to Swedish Medical Center for minor injuries and was later released, Walford said.

Brown was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries that evening, according to the county’s medical examiner’s office.

Walford is still waiting on a toxicology report, which could take six to eight weeks to complete.
